Been a fan of Andrew ‘Slim’ Black since the release of his Celtic rock album Gallows Tree Tales. This was followed by a musical collaboration called Junk Jewelry.  Now, you have to know that Slim doesn’t make the same kind of sound in each project. He always managed to be a chameleon of music. And he does it with great ease. The other day, he posted a track collaboration under the title Messiahs Sister. Basically, that’s the group name. It’s Claude’s project and it’s turned into a kind of collective.

Tibetan singing bowl. Now that’s new. The intro has this kind of vibe found in Fleetwood Mac’s “Dreams.” But as soon as the three of them starts singing then it’s something else. Think of Jefferson Airplane, Alan Parson’s Project and Daft Punk all in one. What I like about Inside Your Head  is the lack screaming chorus and cheesy melodies that now permeates a lot of electro tunes . It’s more of a laid back tune that is at home anywhere.

Now whoever was able to come up with that chorus is someone who knows intelligent pop.  It’s catchy but  never gets old. The whole song is characterized by tight vocal harmonies and rich synth arrangement. Something  that can only come out of musicians who have high aesthetic points. Check it out and prepare to be seduced!

“Well it’s been a while – hope your 2013 has been a blast. It’s been a weird one for me and lots of mine for various unconnected reasons (or maybe they are connected!) – in good and bad ways. Anyhow I was just thinking of you all, and letting you know I’m still here. The Slim folk-rock thing is still going but I’ve filed it in the intray for a bit to investigate and explore the big wide world a bit more first and find some good stuff to drive it all onwards and all that… I do miss you all and we’ll be back at you soon at some point. I’ve been occupying myself doing loads of party DJing which I absolutely love (Crazy In Love anyone), also scouting out business opportunities, playing with other folky dudes, and plotting the best summer ever for 2013!

Anyhow to keep you all amused and inspired, I thought you should see a new song and video that I did with Claude and jh last bank holiday monday – Claude has a free-thinking psychy electro rock / pop project going by the name of Messiahssister – and we set out to write, record and mix and master a full song, and then do the video all in a day. We did it – the song’s called ‘Inside Your Head’ – think Empire of The Sun meets Tango In The Night or something like that – hope it jollies you all up a little. It’s also the recording debut for us with mandolin and Claude’s Tibetan singing bowl (which sadly has now gone on a new adventure).”
