Rusted Sounds hits Resonance

https://resonatingwoodrecordings.bandcamp.com/album/a-game-with-masks

If you haven’t yet do check out the latest release from Resonating Wood Recordings called A Game With Masks by Rusted Sounds. The new album has 12 songs all written around voice and guitar. In The Air is a personal favorite because I love its arrangement. Everything about it has a cinematic feel. A king of song you would love to listen to while watching the rain or seeing the sun set.

A Game with Masks has a light overall feel as singer/songwriter Philip Soanes prefers the bare acoustic feel as opposed to the basic guitar-drum-bass set up. A Game with Mask should be a perfect accompany to your languid afternoons.

I have to say I love the strings, glokenspeil and other instruments that color this album (especially in the song Lie Down). Every songs works and it’s the kind of album you can play again and again, as it gains resonance with every listen.

Recorded at home in Kraków, Poland and Bratislava, Slovakia in 2014 / early 2015.

After the Storm is the beginning of Creativity for J.P. Kallio

Every time singer/songwriter J.P. Kallio mentions that he has a new album out, I am always excited about it. I will explain the reasons why. First, I knew of his talent from his two bands and I know he is prolific. You have would probably agree with me that we are so damn lazy sometimes to get off our coaches and do something out there that can affect other people in a positive way. Yes we know we can do it because we have creativity but, motivation is not there. And J.P. is immuned to this creative laziness. Just look at his website and you will know what I mean.afterthestormalbumcover

He is also a blogger. That’s the second thing. In fact he is more productive than I am. I am amaze at the amount of ideas he can come up in a week. And on top of these crazy stuff, he also tours with his band. Really crazy eh? He is a staunch advocate of coffee in the morning. I guess I need to trust that coffee can make the world beautiful!

He is a musician’s friend. He is not bothered to share his craft and the tips that can go a long way. Now that his new album is out let me tell you what it is. It has twelve songs. The title is After The Storm. Which becomes clear when you finish listening to the twelve songs. These are acoustic tracks recorded with guitar and other instruments. The general feeling is that of being inside a coffee house. The songs vary from laid back, relaxing ballads to faster ones with provocative themes. For example Fool is a song about the perils of alcoholism but written in a humorous way.

If you love Dylan then you will love the title track. It has that amazing guitar playing which I haven’t heard in like ages. Still others are interesting on both the lyrical and musical aspects. Mama Was Right is heartwarming as a freshly baked muffin. So take your pick now and listen to the intelligence that flows in every song. And yes you will feel his big heart that knows how to love creativity.

JR Richards of Dishwalla goes Pledgemusic for the Upcoming Album.

JR Richards Original Singer/Songwriter of ‘DISHWALLA’

is releasing a New Album through Pledgemusic!

Times have changed.

There’s no label, there’s no record deal. -JR Richards

Yep, I learned this via the post of Glen Phllips on Facebook(as a loyal follower for years) and the video is insanely amazing. I love Dishwalla as they helped shape my growing up years. JR Richards has a mellow voice which is a surprise because he always belts out those intense songs.

So if getting into the pledge means having access to the recording, the production and the completion process(including the making of the music video) then I wanna be rich! To comment on the quote from JR Richards above, yes times have changed. It’s because record labels are supporting terrible music that sell millions.

It seems JR Richards has done ok after Diswalla. The life of a rock musician is challenging. I learned that after reading the book of Kim Gordon called Girl in a Band.

February 2015 Indie Music Updates

Hello folks! It’s a soothing weekend and I am bringing to you updates on cool music around the web. It’s amazing to know that 2015 is anther great year of music. We have electronic, acoustic and other types of music that’s ‘not radio.’

I discovered Alex Pardini more than a year ago when I stumbled upon his music on the web. Since thn we have kept a tight correspondent covering many topics including photography( he’s a pro). He gets better each year as he creates fantastic and elegant tunes. His music speaks to the side of me who likes finer, better and beautiful things in life. This is the first playlist I listened upon waking up. These are evening tunes but then again, beautiful music is always enriching any time of the day. So good, so rich!

If you like something acoustic and soothing then check this song by singer/songwriter J.P. Kallio. What I like about his songs is that, you can appreciate his songs even if you are not a fan of folk music. His recordings are always excellent in terms of clarity and balance. This is the kind of quality that I look for in any stripped down tune.

***

Whenever I listen to any Michael Stovall song, I get carried away. His emotional pieces always have a room for the ‘soundtrack of your life’ kind of moment. The depth of lyrics and beautiful singing are his strong points. The melodies are his gold.

***

Talents between New Zealand and Ireland have created Altocirrus. I feel so fortunate to listen to their latest album plus review it for this site!

***

This musical asset of Romania by the name of LeVant continues to dazzle me with his unique ideas. His tunes are somewhat in the  pop-but not so pop, category. His deep understanding of Classical, Medieval,Jazz,Electronic is astounding. Unjaded is his latest release.

Pierre Masse continues to dabble with different styles of music. From acoustic to electronic, his versatility is excellent. I don’t think any artist who started a career doing acoustic rock could pull that off elegantly. And he did. Amazing!

***

I am enjoying this new upload from Norwegian artist Kjell Roll Elgsaas. Very energetic and complex. Beautiful beats.

And last but not the least, I need you to listen to this beautiful song from Cornish singer/songwriter Dan Aston.  Lemonade Sea is the title. This is recorded at The VIP Lounge in Penzance and featuring Sue Aston on violin and members from Cornish jazz band, Endangered Species.

Enjoy your weekend with beautiful music.

I recommend these Soundcloud artists

I am so passionate about Soundcloud. That is where I hear cool music all the time. That’s where musicians that I respect and admire post their tunes. That’s a place where I love to repost and tweet the uploads of these fantastic artists. So today it’s less talk and more Soundcloud links. These are the musicians that are hot on my list. I hope you enjoy their music as much as I did. And oh, it’s 5 am in the morning here.
