A Song of Hope for AIDS Cure.

Never been an Elton John fan but this one touched me when it first came out.

I remember it clearly. It was the summer of 1984. My aunt brought home a magazine with the title AIDS written in red…more like a spray pain resembling a graffiti on a wall. The title fascinated me. I heard of talks about this going around. I was 9 years old. I remember how the epidemic drifted in and out of my mind while I attended to what kids my age did in the 80’s way before computers and Internet became the trend. When you get to be someone who feels like an ‘outsider’ all your life, you become attentive to things. For years I waited for news that a cure is found.

How long must we wait?

A few days ago I read this interesting article off Science Daily titled New Report Describes Seven Essential Steps Toward an AIDS-Free Generation. It says:

The end of AIDS is within our reach. But as the authors of a new special supplement in the August, 2012 Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiencies (JAIDS) point out, new financial investments — and renewed commitments — from countries around the world will be critical to fully implement proven treatment and prevention tools already at hand and to continue essential scientific research.
